Radio Flyer Wagon Makeover

Step 1: Sand wagon removing old paint and rust. (You can see the difference inside left of the wagon.)

 Step 2: Tape areas that I didn't want blue.  Spray paint wagon.

Step 3: Sand and paint another coat of paint.

Step 4: Stencil design on wagon and spray with clear paint.

Stripling Warriors Taffy - Primary

I love to give my class something that will remind them of my lesson through out their day/week/life.  Today we had a lesson on the stripling warriors and how they had to work together to defeat their enemy.  I gave each class member a baggie of salt water taffy.  The bags had a label which explained how taffy and the stripling warriors are alike.  Sadly I tasted the taffy after church and I was really gross.  :(

Teacher Appreciation

Brian's last day of Kindergarden was yesterday.  I wanted to thank his teachers and bus driver for doing such an amazing job.  So Keith and I went to BJs and bought a bunch of gum balls.  I then filled pint sized mason jars with the gum balls.  I designed a label for each jar with a thank you note and trimmed them with some bubble gum pink ribbon.  Earlier this year I purchased stamps for each of the kids teachers.  I placed those in snack sized zip lock bags and tucked one end of the baggie into the top of the jar before placing on the top.  I am a huge fan of the plastic reusable mason jar tops, especially since they don't rust.

Lunch Bag Notes

This year more than ever, I have been writing notes to my kids on their lunch bags.  This morning I remembered I had some leftover candy from a Sunday School lesson.  So here is what I came up with.  The girls were beaming as soon as they saw their bags!  To me that means success.

Trash To Treasure - Message Board

For homework this week Alyssa was asked to create something new out of recycled materials.  After some thought we decided a message board for her teacher would be nice.  So we took my old cookie sheet that was destined for the trash and covered it with material in her teacher's favorite colors.  We then covered a small can to hold pencils with a coordinating material.  To create magnets we attached self adhesive magnet rounds to some cute buttons.  In the dollar bin at Wal-Mart we found a cute note pad.  With some scrap ribbon we dressed up the pencil holder and at the top as a hanger.  After it was complete we all agreed that next time we have a cookie sheet that has seen better days we need to make one for us!

My New Apron

I am in love with aprons, especially vintage ones from the 50s.  I found a book with some vintage apron patterns and selected three fabrics that coordinate with my home.  I then asked my dear friend Rindi Billings, from Stitches By Design to sew it for me.  She did a wonderful job!  I also had her make the aprons for Young Women's Camp.  These came out perfect too!  If you're looking to have a custom vintage apron of your own you can contact her at: ettocrut@verizon.net and let her know Katie sent you.

Paper Flowers

1. Take an old book (or any pretty paper.
2. Cut petals in various sizes. Curl with a pencil or leave flat. 3. Starting with smallest petal curl and place a dab of hot glue to keep in place.
4. Keep going increasing the size of the petals as you go around. I found it best to overlap them a bit (you can see in the bottom one I didn't do that and there are gaps in the flower.

My inspiration came from a wreath made of these flowers. After two flower and two hours I was done. You'd need a lot of time and patience for that wreath.

Vintage Doors

I created these for Berryphotos since I love vintage doors but buying them were way too much money. I painted the other side pink after the blue became a huge hit.

To make these I took bifold closet doors from the clearance section at Lowe's.  I began by first super gluing pretty wooden embellishments to the doors.  I then began to brush layer upon layer of paint in different shades of my main color as well as brown and white.  Then before the paint dried a rubbed it with my gloved hand, sandpaper, and scrapped it with rocks.  This gave it the old feel I was going for.  The more layers of paint you add the older it will look.  Have fun making yours!
